According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the 6-year graduation rate was only 60% for the first-time students enrolled in a four-year colleges, and the retention rate of students enrolled in 2-year colleges is about 62%. The major academic reasons for almost 40% students not graduating even after 6 years in college are lack of preparation for college level courses, not attending classes on a regular basis, not coming prepared to classes, not being engaged in classes, not receiving timely feedback, and not getting help on time.

There are several ways to help students come prepared to class, increase their class attendance, engage them with relevant activities, provide timely feedback, identify students at risk of dropping out early and help them in a timely manner to succeed. Not every instructional method needs technology to implement but there are certain instructional approaches that are more effectively done with classroom response systems.

This presentation will cover the cover evidence-based teaching techniques that were proven effective in helping students come prepared to each class, be engaged in the classroom, feel comfortable in asking questions and getting the needed help. The user-friendly classroom response system, Squarecap will be used to interact with the participants and show how it has improved attendance, participation and performance. The success stories will be shared to help every student succeed.
